I started this tradition when my son was eight years old and at 13, is something we both look forward to every year. There are "mermaid" swims during the day, water balloon tosses in the afternoon and smores making by the firepit at night.Īlthough I have vacationed in the Keys since I was a teenager, the main reason I come is for our annual mother and son fishing trips. There are daily activities at the lagoon like parent-child paddle board races where my daughter and I beat a handful of dads one year. Around the perimeter of the lagoon, there’s a white sand lounge area where you can choose to lay out, order lunch or rent stand up paddle boards or kayaks. Those weary of ocean life will feel very comfortable knowing nothing harmful will be lurking near their family. At the heart of the resort is a saltwater lagoon, fed by the ocean but cleverly filtered of dangerous sea creatures. This family resort, located in the center part of the Keys on Duck Key, has activities and amenities for every age group which is hard to do when you have selfie taking teens and toddlers learning to swim. Finding a vacation destination that works for everyone is a huge challenge but there is one place we return to year after year and that's Hawk’s Cay in the Florida Keys. After booking the trip and packing everyone, I then have to plan the activities of the day with a baby in tow in addition to activities for my teenagers, school aged children and my toddlers. ![]() I am a mother to seven children and the wife of a giant, unorganized child so going on vacation often feels like a business trip. ![]()
